IOA removes Tarun Gogoi & Rockybul Hussain from Assam Olympic Association

July 12: The Assam Olympic Association (ASA) failed to hold its election in proper time, which was taken quite seriously by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). It is in this backdrop that the Indian Olympic Association on 11 July, 2019 has removed the former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi as President and Rockybul Hussain as Secretary General of the Assam Olympic Association.

The state association bodies of the IOA enjoy a four year term and the ASA failed to conduct the meeting at the expiry of the term. In a letter issued by IOA President Narinder Dhruv Batra it was stated, “They failed to give any valid explanation for not conducting the election in time.”  IOA has formed an ad-hoc committee with Surinder Mohan Bali as Chairperson of ASA. He was directed to take interim measures for overseeing governance and management affairs and conduct the election of the Assam Olympic Association within six months.
