Invited talk on Carrier Prospect with economics for students held at Women’s College Silchar

way2barak, 5 December: With the aim to enlighten the students and learners on the importance of economics as a subject and a career prospect, the Department of Economics, Women’s College Silchar recently organised an invited talk on “Carrier Prospect with Economics”.
Also, the departmental publication “Economic Vision” was ceremoniously released by Prof Ritwick Mazumder, head, Department of Economics at Assam University, Silchar in the presence of Dr Joydeep Biswas, head, Department of Economics at Cachar College alongside Dr Santanu Das, principal in-charge of the college and other faculty members of the college.
Held at the new seminar hall of the college, Prof Ritwick Mazumder, who was the chief speaker of the day’s event, addressed the students on the importance of economics as subject in the academic pursuits. In his words, the starting point in understanding economics has to be a layman’s analysis of the issues.
Through a presentation, Prof Mazumder shed light on the prospect of economics in markets, technology, good governance, in education or infrastructure, poverty cycle, globalisation and need versus necessities. He also spoke about the issues of sustainable development with respect to economics. Prof Mazumder placed the instances of economic issues from the journey of our daily lives to deepen the students’ interest in understanding economic issues by avoiding all academic jargons.
On the other hand, Dr Joydeep Biswas highlighted on India’s youth potential which constitute 65 percent of the population, aged under 35 years. Every year, India witnesses a serious mismatch of demand and supply with respect to the job seekers as 2.40 crore youth plunge into the job market. Urging the students to be meticulous about selecting their subjects with respect to their careers, Dr Biswas appealed to them to make the right and judicious choices instead of depending on external elements aiding the subject selections. Dr. Biswas mentioned about the enormous scope of economics and its potency in raising prospects of getting job. He urged the students to wipe out false fear centring the subject and to understand the scope of the subject rationally.
Dr Santanu Das, principal in-charge of the college congratulated the Dr Sujoy Das, the HoD of Economics for organising this vital event in the larger interest of the students and urged the students to follow the guidelines given by the experts.
Earlier, Dr Sujoy Das delivered the welcome address and informed that the event is especially aimed for orienting the students of the college studying in the HS level and making them aware about the prospects economics offers in their careers. Dr Nairita Bhattacharjee, a faculty of the department delivered the welcome address.
