International Women’s Day celebrated at Women’s College, Silchar
March 8: International Women’s Day was celebrated at Women’s College Silchar on Monday. An invited lecture on health and hygiene issues faced by women was also organised during the occasion. The programme was organised by the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the college along with the Centre for Extension Education. Veteran physician, Dr Kumar Kanti Das delivered the lecture in the presence of Dr Manoj Kumar Paul, the Principal of the college, faculty members and students.
In his speech, Dr Das clarified some common misconceptions on health issues faced by women. In an interactive session, Dr Das responded to the questions on health and hygiene raised by students of the college. “Those who undergo surgery can take bath within 12 hours of surgery and also can take sour fruits which contain vitamin C which benefits our health,” said the physician.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Manoj Kumar Paul said that women today are advancing in all walks of life. Yet in certain situation, women have to face stigma. “We need to encourage women who are our future and can lead the country to greater heights,” added the Principal. Two senior teachers of the college, Dr Banani Das, Vice Principal and Arundhati Bhattacharjee, Co-ordinator IQAC of the college were felicitated on the occasion.
