‘International Day of Forest’ celebrated in Cachar College

way2barak, March 22: The Department of Botany, Cachar College, Silchar, celebrated International Day of Forest on 21st March in two phases. In the first session, an intra-departmental art competition on the theme “forest and food” was organized, in which students actively participated. In the second session, a popular talk was organized on the theme.
On this occasion, Dr. Taj Uddin Khan, Principal, West Silchar College, Barjatrapur, Cachar was invited as a speaker. He was felicitated by uttario and memento. Ratan Kumar Das, Principal-in-charge of the college and Dr. Gopa Chakraborty, former Head, the Department of Botany were also felicitated. Dr. Mukul Kumar Baruah, Head, Department of Botany gave the welcome speech. Ratan Kumar Das highlighted the importance of the day and motivated the students to plant saplings on birthdays every year. Dr. Gopa Chakraborty addressed the consequences of deforestation and stimulated reforestation and it’s benefits. Dr. Taj Uddin Khan, the invited Speaker delivered a popular talk on “Forest: A Key Source of Food and Sustainability” and gave emphasis on plantations. He talked about the celebration of International Day of Forest, the climatic condition with special reference to North-East India. The speaker also inspired the students for plantation and popularized the theme of the event with the experience during his doctorate degree about the importance of plants present in Assam and other states of North East India. The organizing committee consisted of Advisor Dr. Mukul Kumar Baruah, Convener Dr. Shwetosmita Nath, and members Dr. Biswajit Deb Roy, and Dr. Debasish Deb. Dr. Gayatri Ghosh, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics and Miss Nabarupa Dhar, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce were also present.
The programme was anchored by Miss Rupjily Beypi. The judges of the art competition were Dr. Paromita Das, Head of the Department of Commerce and Dr. Gopa Chakraborty. The competition was monitored by Miss Beypi, and Dr. Debasish Deb. At the valedictory session the results of the art competition were announced by the convener of the program and the winners were awarded with various prizes by the guests. The program was ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Debasish Deb.
