Inner Wheel plant saplings at Silchar & pledges to protect the green
June 8: World Environment Day, which was celebrated on June 5, brought together several people in the town for events like tree plantation, putting up of posters about saving trees and water and felicitation of those working for the environment. The spirit of the Environment Day celebration did not stop just on 5 June, but it kept on lingering throughout the week. On 8 June, Inner Wheel Club of Silchar celebrated the environment day by planting 150 saplings in a 200 metres space in a divider at Rongpur, Silchar. Colourful placards on the theme of protecting the environment was also displayed.
It needs mention here that this particular space of 200 meters within a divider was permanently provided to Inner Wheel Club by the PWD Department, Government of Assam. The club has taken the responsibility of taking care of the saplings planted by them throughout the year.
A flow of enthusiasm was noticed among the members of Inner Wheel Club. Speaking with way2barak during the occasion, Jhumki Saha, President of Inner Wheel Club said, “It’s our privilege to be able to join hands in the movement of preserving the environment by planting trees. We are grateful to the PWD who provided us with this space for planting saplings. We assure to take care of these plants which we planted today. we would also appeal to all to plant more and more trees and thereby make the world a better place to live in.”
Apart from Jhumki Saha, also present during the plantation drive were Sumita Shome, Chairman of Inner Wheel Club, Ankita Ghosh-Secretary of the Club, Subinita Biswas, Mousumi Roy, Mohul Mitra, Kalita Ghosh, Moumita Gupta, Sutapa Bhattacharjee, Minu Gope, Subinita Biswas, Indrani Bhattacharjee, Madhumita Majumdar, Kabita Singh, Moutushi Roy, Mousumi Saha, Sushmita Choudhury among others.
