Inner Wheel Club of Silchar felicitates DC & SP on International Women’s Day

March 8: International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. International days and weeks are occasions to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilize political will and resources to address global problems, and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity.

To commemorate this day, numerous programmes were held throughout the globe. In Silchar too, multifarious activities were held by different organisations. Humanitarian organisation “Inner Wheel Club (IWC)”, Silchar also observed the International Women’s Day on Tuesday in a befitting manner. The members of IWC, Silchar felicitated Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar and Ramandeep Kaur, Superintendent of Police of Cachar in their respective office chambers.

Present on behalf of IWC, Silchar during the occasion were its President Shilpi Ghosh, Secretary Minu Gope, Treasurer Indrani Bhattacharjee, Sampa Banik, Madhumita Paul Ghosh, Archana Choudhury, Pinky Gang, Archana Choudhury and Moumita Gupta among others.

“Action is needed to level the playing field.” The United Nations also announces themes for International Women’s Day. For 2022, it focuses on women in the context of climate change: “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.” Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn’t enough, action is needed to level the playing field.
