Initial test suggests ‘Black Fungus’, awaiting for final reports: Principal SMCH
শিলচরের প্রাথমিক পরীক্ষায় ব্ল্যাক ফাঙ্গাসই, চূড়ান্ত রিপোর্টের অপেক্ষায়, জানালেন অধ্যক্ষ

ওয়েটুবরাক, ৩০ মে: শিলচর মেডিক্যাল কলেজে শেষপর্যন্ত ব্ল্যাক ফাঙ্গাসই ধরা পড়ল৷ প্রাথমিক যে পরীক্ষা করা হয়েছে, এর রিপোর্ট পজিটিভ এসেছে৷ সাংবাদিক সম্মেলন ডেকে সাংসদ ও জেলাশাসকের উপস্থিতিতে এ কথা ঘোষণা করেছেন অধ্যক্ষ ডা. বাবুলকুমার বেজবরুয়া৷ তবে তাঁরা চূড়ান্ত রিপোর্টের অপেক্ষায়৷ দুই-তিন দিনের মধ্যে লালারস ও বায়োপসির রিপোর্ট হাতে পেয়ে যাবেন বলে আশা করছেন তাঁরা৷ তবে চূড়ান্ত রিপোর্টের অপেক্ষা না করে শনিবার থেকেই তাঁকে ব্ল্যাক ফাঙ্গাসের ওষুধ দেওয়া হচ্ছে বলে জানিয়েছেন অধ্যক্ষ ডা. বেজবরুয়া ও সাংসদ ডা. রাজদীপ রায়৷

তাঁরা জানান, করিমগঞ্জের রোগী বাড়ি৷ গত ৫ মে কোভিডে আক্রান্ত হয়ে করিমগঞ্জ সিভিল হাসপাতালে ভর্তি হয়েছিলেন৷ ১১ মে নেগেটিভ হয়ে বাড়ি চলে যান৷ কিন্তু পরদিনই দেখেন, শ্বাসকষ্ট বেশি৷ চলে আসেন শিলচর গ্রেসওয়েল হাসপাতালে৷ ১৫ মে সেখান থেকে ছাড়া পেয়ে শিলচরের এক লজে থাকেন৷ কিন্তু শ্বাসের সমস্যা মেটেনি৷ ভর্তি হন জীবনজ্যোতি হাসপাতালে৷ সেখান থেকে গত ২৬ মে তাঁকে শিলচর মেডিক্যাল কলেজে পাঠানো হয়৷

একটি চোখ বেশ ফোলা৷ তাই প্রথমে রিপোর্ট হয় চক্ষু বিভাগে৷ ডাক্তাররা দেখেন, নাকেও সমস্যা রয়েছে৷ পাঠানো হয় নাক-কান-গলা বিভাগে৷ সেখানেই অনুমানটা শুরু হয়৷ লালারস নেওয়া হয়, হয় বায়োপসি, নোজাল এন্ডোস্কোপি৷ বায়োপসি রিপোর্ট আসার অপেক্ষায় না থেকে চিকিৎসকরা ব্ল্যাক ফাঙ্গাসের একটি প্রাথমিক পরীক্ষা করেন৷ ওই রিপোর্ট পজিটিভ আসে৷

তাই বলে উদ্বেগের কিছু নেই৷ জোর গলায় দাবি করেন ডাক্তারদল৷ সাংসদ, অধ্যক্ষ, উপাধ্যক্ষ৷ তাঁরা বলেন, ব্ল্যাক ফাঙ্গাস করোনার মত সংক্রামক নয়৷

এ ছাড়া ৪২ বছর বয়সী ওই রোগীর ব্ল্যাক ফাঙ্গাসের ডোজ শুরু হয়ে গিয়েছে৷ ওষুধও শিলচর মেডিক্যাল কলেজে মজুত রয়েছে৷ তবে তাঁকে অনেকদিন আগেই আক্রমণ করায় চোখ-কান ছাড়িয়ে এখন মস্তিষ্কেও পৌঁছে গিয়েছে৷ তাঁর চিকিৎসা তদারকির জন্য একটি কমিটি গঠন করা হয়েছে৷ ইএনটি, অপথালমোলজি, ডারমাটোলজি, মেডিসিন এবং মাইক্রোবায়োলজি বিশেষজ্ঞদের রাখা হয়েছে তাতে৷

May 30: “The preliminary test of a suspected patient with Black Fungus has been found to be positive. We are now awaiting for the final test report.” This was stated by Dr. Babul Kumar Bezbaruah, Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) during a press meet on Sunday in presence of the Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli, MP Silchar Dr Rajdeep Roy, Vice Principal of SMCH Dr Bhaskar Gupta and other doctors.

Dr. Bezbaruah further said that they are hopeful of getting the final report within 2 to 3 days time. However, going by the symptoms exhibited by the 42-year-old patient from Karimganj and as per the initial test report, the doctors have already started administering the drugs of Black Fungus. Though Dr Rajdeep Roy informed that Black Fungus is not a contagious disease, yet the patient has been kept in an isolated cabin at SMCH.

Providing the medical history of the patient suspected to be suffering from Black Fungus, the Principal of SMCH,  Dr. Babul Kumar Bezbaruah said, “We won’t be divulging the name of the patient. It’s against the norms of human rights. This patient from Karimganj was detected as Covid-19 positive on 5 May, 2021 and was being treated at Karimganj Civil Hospital. He became negative on 11 May and was then released from that hospital. However, soon that patient developed breathing complications. After which, he came over to Silchar and took admission at Gracewell Hospital on 12 May, where he was under treatment till 15 May. He was then discharged from Gracewell. The patient then stayed in a lodge at Silchar.”

The Principal then said, “On 17 May, the patient took admission at Jeevan Jyoti Institute of Medical Sciences,  Silchar due to breathing difficulties. He was treated conservatively as a post-Covid case at Jeevan Jyoti. This patient came to Silchar Medical College at the Department of Ophthalmology on 26 May. On examination, the doctors in that department found that there was swelling in one his eyes, nasal obstruction and involvement of nerves. His opthalmological involvement was more. After that, the case was referred to ENT Department of SMCH. The doctors of ENT department in association with the Medicine Department has taken the swab and biopsy of the patient after doing nasal endoscopy. The biopsy report is awaited. The swab test report will arrive within 4 to 5 days.”

“However, during the night on 29 May, we did the initial test in case of such suspected patient. This preliminary KOH test was positive. It’s similar like RAT & RT-PCR. As we 1st do Rapid Antigen Test and then to be more sure we do the RT-PCR test. That one is also similar. So the initial KOH was positive of Black Fungus. But until and unless we get the culture report and biopsy report, we cannot say with certainty that it is a typical case of Black Fungus. Looking at the status and clinical significance of the disease, we have already started treatment of this patient. Govt of Assam has supplied us the drugs of this disease. As per protocol, we have started his treatment of Black Fungus. Apart from taking his swab and doing biopsy, the ENT Department has also cleaned his nasal area to reduce the obstruction. Actually, the patient’s one nerve has been involved and through it the brain has also been involved. He is under oxygen therapy now. He is been kept in an isolated cabin in medicine department, added the Principal of Silchar Medical College.

Further, a medical board was also constituted with the heads of the department of ENT, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Medicine and Microbiology for the treatment of this patient.
