Infection source of 9 COVID-19 patients could not be traced, says Himanta Biswa

May 21: A total of 203 COVID-19 positive patients were reported from the state till Thursday night. Addressing a press conference on Thursday evening in Guwahati, State Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “We are now in a critical stage of COVID-19. There is no chance of decrease in numbers. Chances of positive cases surging up are on the cards.” Cases are increasing in the state after those stranded outside started coming back to Assam.

Himanta Biswa also said that till now, 25,693 persons have come to Assam by road, while 11,724 of them have come by train. That means, a total of 37,417 have entered Assam till now. Another 12 lakh people are still awaiting to enter the state, said the minister.

Citing statistics, the minister said that in Assam, source of majority of the COVID-19 cases could be traced. Till now, the source of infection of only 09 patients could not be traced. Out of the 9 positive patients, 4 each are from Bongaigaon and Kamrup Metro, while 1 of them is from Kamrup Rural. The break-up of the source of infection as stated by State Health Minister is stated here:

  • Nizamuddin Markaz related cases:      36 positive
  • People travelling from outside Assam: 112 positive
  • Cases came up after contact tracing:   32  positive
  • Case History could not be traced:         09 positive
