Indian Railways digitalize the application procedure for Divyangjan smart card
way2barak, Dec 30: Railways has rolled out the procedure for digitalization of applications for Divyangjan Passengers Smart Card registration.The initiative which was introduced as a pilot project in Mumbai, Secunderabad, and Chennai Divisions has now been extended to other zonal Railways including N. F. Railway.
Persons with visual impairment with absence of sight, mentally challenged persons, persons with hearing and speech impairment totally and orthopedically handicapped passengers can apply for issuance or renewal of their photo ID cards digitally to avail concessional rail tickets. To access the portal and begin registration, Divyangjan Passengers can visit https://divyangjanid.indianrail.gov.in/where a detailed user manual is available to assist with the process.
Earlier, Divyangjan Passengers had to submit the application by person or by post to the Divisional Railway Offices. Afterwards, verification of the relevant documents were done manually before issuance of the concession card. It was physically challenging for the Divyangjan Passengers to stand in long queues and complete the verification process. The online portal simplifies the process to obtain the Divyangjan Smart Card as the applicants can track their application status and receive their smart card without visiting railway offices. Persons with disabilities need not visit the railway offices and submit applications in person.With the online process, they can download the digital ID card once their application is approved
NF. Railway encourages all Divyangjan passengers to take full advantage of this online service, which will simplify and expedite the process of obtaining the smart card. Concessional reserved tickets can be booked at ticket counters or via the IRCTC website. Concessional unreserved tickets can be booked at ticket counters or using the UTS app on mobile phones.
