India reports 1,03,558 new COVID-19 cases & 478 deaths in last 24 hours

April 5: India has reported a record rise in coronavirus infections. The country’s daily COVID-19 cases soared by 103,558 on Monday, the biggest such daily increase, as per the data from the Union Health Ministry. The previous high of 97,894 cases was achieved on 16 September last year, after which India’s cases started sliding. Of the 103,558 cases India counted in last 24 hours, over 57,700 infections were reported from Maharashtra. Of the 478 deaths counted on Sunday, 222 were from Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, 52,847 patients were also discharged in the last 24 hours taking the total number of recovered patients to 1,16,82,136. The total COVID-19 cases in the country stand at 1,25,89,067, while the active cases stand at 7,41,830. As of now, a total of 1,65,101 persons have lost their lives due to coronavirus in the country. As per the data provided by the health ministry, 7,91,05,163 persons were vaccinated till now.

 In a tweet on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “Reviewed the COVID-19 and vaccination related situation across the country. Reiterated the importance of the five fold strategy of testing, tracing, treatment, Covid-appropriate behaviour and vaccination as an effective way to fight the global pandemic.”
