India overtakes Russia, becomes 3rd worst hit country in corona tally
July 5: What seems to be more worrying for the country is the fact that India has now taken the third spot in the list of nations worst hit by coronavirus. Till Sunday, India recorded a number of 6,97,836 coronavirus cases, out of which, 2,53,245 are active cases. India overtook Russia to become the third worst-hit nation by COVID-19. India is now preceded only by Brazil and the US. Brazil has over 15 lakh cases and the US has more than 28 lakh. However, at the same time, the number of recoveries in India stands at 4,24,891.
On Sunday, India added a record number of coronavirus cases. The health ministry reported just under 25,000 cases and 613 deaths in 24 hours — the biggest daily spike since the first case was detected in late January. The number of deaths reached 19,700.
The states having maximum number of COVID-19 positive cases are: Maharashtra (2,06,619), Tamil Nadu (1,11,151), Delhi (99,444), Gujarat (36,123), Uttar Pradesh (27,707), Telengana (23,902), Karnataka (23,474), West Bengal (22,126), Rajasthan (20,164), Andhra Pradesh (18,697), Haryana (17,005), Madhya Pradesh (14,930), Bihar (11,860), Assam (11,736), Odhisa (9070).
