India going under lockdown again from 15 June is a FAKE claim

June 12: With the number of COVID-19 cases touching 10,000 every day, rumours about a stringent lockdown returning from 15 June are finding their way into WhatsApp groups and social media posts. Press Information Bureau (PIB) recently debunked this rumour that claimed India will be locked down again post June 15. Asking netizens to beware of such misleading news, PIB debunked the lies being forwarded on WhatsApp.

“Claim: In a picture being circulated on social media it is claimed that Home Ministry, besides imposing restrictions on trains and flights, is also considering complete lockdown from June 15,” reads the post’s caption when translated from Hindi. Then the agency added that the news is fake. Taking to their Twitter’s fact check handle that counters misinformation on government policies and schemes, PIB shared a screenshot of the message and posted a ‘Fake News’ stamp on it.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has not announced anything regarding the re-implementation of lockdown in the country. Besides, the photo of the lockdown message that is in circulation on the Internet is morphed. This is #Fake. Beware of such misleading photos spreading fake news.
