Incident of Black Fungus at SMCH is not yet confirmed, report awaited: Dr Bhaskar Gupta
May 29: On Saturday late evening, District Media Expert gave an information which stated “one case of Black Fungus detected at Silchar Medical College. Details coming…” On the basis of this information, way2barak published a news. However, around 40 minutes later in the evening, the District Media Expert provided fresh inputs where he stated, “The case is not confirmed yet, we will have to wait for the final report. As such, the news was taken off by way2barak.
Meanwhile, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) came up with a clarification. In a video sent by Dr Gupta to the media, he said, “A news came in a section of media regarding detection of an instance of Black Fungus at SMCH. In this regard, on behalf of the Medical College authority we investigated the matter and found that such a suspected case of post Covid complication was admitted at SMCH today. We are doing a number of tests like culture of his sample, MRI etc. It usually takes 4 to 5 day’s time to get the final report of culture. So until and unless we get the final report, it will not be possible for us to say with certainty whether the patient is suffering from Black Fungus or not.”
Saying so, Dr Gupta went ahead and assured the people not to worry even if Black fungus is detected in Silchar. He said, “Black fungus is curable disease if it is detected at an early stage. The treatment of Black Fungus is also available at Silchar Medical College. So none should get tensed even if is detected.”
