Impact of cyclonic storm Yaas: Karimganj administration puts response forces on alert mode
May 24: In view of cyclonic storm ‘Yaas’ making a landfall over East Central Bay of Bengal and its cascading effect to be felt in different parts of Assam, the Karimganj district administration has put the response forces on alert mode.
Following a letter from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority to all Deputy Commissioners here on Monday of light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in view of cyclonic storm Yaas lashing East Central Bay of Bengal on Wednesday and Thursday till midnight, the district administration authorities have directed the response forces to keep vigil in the riverine and flood prone areas.
Cyclone YAAS is likely to affect the region on 26-27 May. Hon’ble UHM @AmitShah called and enquired about preparedness of Assam, Sikkim and Meghalaya. Informed that emergency services have been pressed into action. Grateful to Hon’ble UHM for his continued concern for the region.

The district authorities have asked the Fire and Emergency Services, NDRF, SDRF, Civil Defence and other response forces to remain on alert mode in the event of any exigency. Meanwhile, gusty wind accompanied by heavy rainfall lashed Karimganj and adjoining areas of South Assam’s Barak Valley on Monday evening.
