ILLEGAL ARECA NUTS RECOVERED WORTH RS 3.51 CRORE IN CHAMPHAI

way2barak, Feb 13 : In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, Serchipp Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 780 bags of illegal areca nuts worth Rs 3.51 Crore in Melbuk crossing, Champhai on 13 February 2023.

Based on specific information the operation was carried out by a combined team of Assam Rifles and Customs Department, Champhai. The Assam Rifles team recovered the items which were dumped in Melbuk crossing along Indo-Myanmar Border.

Approximate cost of the recovered areca nuts is Rs 3.51 Crore. The seized consignment was handed over to Customs department, Champhai on 13 February 2023 for further legal proceedings.
