If CBI investigates recent flood, then bi-election in Silchar Lok Sabha & Assembly is certain: Kamalakhya
July 7: The recent devastating flood in Silchar has caused loss of hundreds of crores. Over and above, the sufferings of the people knew no bounds. This disaster occurred as a result of the inefficiency of the local MLA and local MP. This was stated by MLA of North Karimganj and Working President of APCC Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha during his visit to Bethukandi along with APCC President Bhupen Borah on Thursday.
“Had the works of the dyke at Bethukandi been done at the proper time, then such a disastrous flood may not have happened in Silchar. Chief Minister said that this is a man-made disaster as some people had broken the dyke. They are no doubt culprits and deserve punishment. But those who have not done the work of the dyke and sluice gate at proper time too deserves punishment. Not CID, but if CBI is given the charge of investigation of this flood, then I am confident that bi-election to the Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly seats from Silchar would definitely take place immediately,” asserted Kamlakhya Dey Purkayastha. On being asked the reason for bi-election, MLA Kamalakhya said, “It’s very simple. In case of CBI enquiry, it will come out clearly as to who were the masterminds behind this catastrophe.”
He further stated that the Chief Minister has not come up with any permanent solution of the issue of flood. “Moreover, the Chief Minister in a video has clearly stated about the failure of the MP and MLA of Silchar. He too seemed to be unhappy about their performance. Though later on the video was deleted from his page, but that was ample to understand the failure of the local leaders of BJP,” added the Congress leader.
Meanwhile, APCC President Bhupen Borah after visiting Bethukandi on Thursday said that this disaster was not at all man-made, but rather due to the unholy nexus between the administration and contractors.
