Innovative ‘Plastic Fishing Competition’ on River Dhaleshwari, 3.20 ton of plastic collected
October 22: A unique innovative step was taken in Hailakandi town on Monday in order to create awareness on reducing plastic usage in the day to day life which all eventually flows into the rivers and oceans choking them up. The attempt was undertaken to clean the Dhaleshwari River in Hailakandi.
A ‘Plastic Fishing Competition’ on River Dhaleshwari was organized in presence of Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi, Executive Officer Pradip Timung, Ward Commissioner, CPO SBM(U) and other officials of Hailakandi Municipal Board. Also present during this unique fishing competition was a medical team and SDRF team for emergency.
Students, NGOs, SHGs and citizens participated with great interest and enthusiasm in the ‘Plastic Fishing Competition’. In her Facebook page, Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi wrote, “We are very happy and proud to say that after fishing for 2 hours, 3.20 ton of plastic was ‘fished’ which will be recycled to be used in cement factories.”
The ‘Plastic Fishing Competition’ was jointly organised by District Administration of Hailakandi and Hailakandi Municipal Board.
