Nov. 30: Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the month of March 2000, the hostels in Assam were also shut. However, the Assam government is now contemplating to reopen the hostels in a limited manner. Announcing the decision, State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Hostels in Assam will reopen in a limited manner from 15 December. Only the final year students will be allowed to stay in hostels.” The minister said this in a press conference which was held at Janata Bhawan, Guwahati on Monday morning.
Citing examples, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “As for example, in case of residential schools, students of Class X & XII will be allowed to come and stay in the hostels. As regards colleges, students of Class XII, TDC Final year students, and those of polytechnic final year can stay in the hostels.” In short, all final year students will be allowed to stay in the hostels from 15 December onwards.
