Holy Cross the Champion, Don Bosco Runner up in Kristi Vibek Chess Tournament

way2barak, 16 August : Holy Cross School emerged as the champion in the 4th Independence Day Chess Meet 2023 organised by Kristi Vibek Sangskritik Sangstha in association with Cachar District Chess Association . The two day competition held on 13 and 15 August, 2023 saw Don Bosco HS School finish as the runner up in the inter-school competitive event. More than 200 promising chess players of Barak Valley took part in the event .
Holy Cross School received the Sudhangshu Mohan Dutta Memorial Trophy along with cash prize of 3,500. Don Bosco HS School took away the Paresh Chandra Chakraborty Memorial Trophy along with cash prize of 3,000 rupees.

Abhrajyoti Nath won the prestigious Ratna Dey Memorial Trophy awarded to the top placed Chess player in the Open category. He also received a cash prize of 2, 000 rupees.
Parimal Suklabaidya, Minister for forest, fisheries and excise department of Assam paid a visit to the venue of the tournament. He encouraged the participants and interacted with the organisers, guardians and players, who participated in the tournament.

The prize distribution ceremony of the tournament was held in the premises of the Kristi Vibek Sangskritik Sangstha on 15th August.
Bibendu Das, president of CDCA while speaking on the occasion said that Independence Day Chess has been growing in stature every year. “ In the first edition of the tournament around 72 participants took part and this year we have seen more than 200 players take part in the competition”, said Das. He added that the idea behind organising the tournament is to encourage more players to take up Chess seriously.
Biswajit Dutta, secretary of Kristi Vibek Sangskritik Sangstha conveyed his gratitude towards all the schools which participated in the tournament.
Babul Hore, former President of DSA, Silchar praised the organisers for organising the tournament every year. He called it a ‘ festival of chess’ .
Kanad Purkayastha lauded the efforts of Kristi Vibek Sangskritik Sangstha in promoting the game of chess. He added that the Sangstha is a unique organisation which has been doing its bit for the betterment of the society in one way or the other.
Among others who were present during the prize distribution ceremony were Kushumeshu Purkayastha, advisor to Kristi Vibek Sangskritik Sangstha. Fenesta was the title sponsor of the tournament and tumbledry was the associate sponsor.
