Himanta inspects site for construction of 300 bed hospital in Silchar

March 29: Within a span of 3 days, Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma was in Silchar to review the COVOD-19 preparedness. The Health Minister declared that a 300-bedded pre-fabricated hospital will be constructed in Silchar as a facility for treatment of COVID-19 patients. The work of this hospital will be done on a war-footing and the hospital will be ready very soon. 

For this purpose, initially two places are under consideration. These two places are Udharbond and Ghungoor. Though the state government is yet to take the final call on the selection of the place where this new hospital will be built.

Acting with utmost promptness, the minister inspected the sites where this special hospital may be built. During the site inspection, the minister was accompanied by state Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy, Principal Health Secretary of State Samir Sinha, MLA Silchar Dilip Kumar Paul, MLA Rajdeep Goala, MLA Kishore Nath, Deputy Commissioner, Barnali Sharma, BJP district President Kaushik Rai and others.

Earlier during the day, Himanta Biswa Sarma signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with 22 private nursing homes of Silchar in Cachar district for cashless treatment of regular patients at Ayushman Bharat rates, to be reimbursed by Government. On the other hand, Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) shall be reserved only for COVID-19 patients, other than maternity & emergency cases. The minister also went to Silchar Medical and Hospital (SMCH) to review COVID-19 preparedness and interacted with doctors over there.
