April 26: The outbreak of coronavirus pandemic has led to nationwide lockdown since the last week of March, 2020. Life has, as if come to a standstill. For many, income has almost become nil. Those who are staying at rented houses are finding it immense difficult to pay their house rent. Even the parents whose wards stay as  paying guests for purpose of education are finding it tough to manage the rent. Taking this into consideration, State Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma appealed to all owners of houses to waive atleast 50 percent of the rent for the month of April.

While addressing the media at NHM Office in Guwahati on Sunday afternoon, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that though this cannot be given a direction, yet it was an appeal to all those who have given their house on rent in Assam to be a little compassionate and grant atleast 50 percent concession in house rent for the month of April. The waiver, he said, should be specially given to the students who stay as paying guests and private employees. He made it a point that government employees need not be given any waiver as the govt has already paid their salary.
