Hi-tech water cum foam fire brigade lying unused, Congress demands to make use of it

March 20: A team of Silchar District Congress Committee (DCC), led by DCC President Pradip Kr Dey along with Secretary of  Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Sanjeev Roy and two General Secretaries of Silchar DCC, Abhijit Paul and Mohanlal Das met with the District Development Commissioner (DDC) of Cachar, J. Lalsim.

The delegation highlighted  to the DDC Cachar about a high-tech and highly equipped fire brigade vehicle capable of extinguishing fire by emitting both foam and water. They said that the machine was purchased at a whopping cost of  Rs. 48 lakhs from the MP LAD fund around 14 months ago. The then MP Silchar, Sushmita Dev handed over this sophisticated fire vehicle to the Fire Service Station, Silchar in presence of the then ADC Ranadhir Dam during a forming ceremony at DSA, Silchar in 2019.

However, the Congress delegation expressed grievance to the fact the said vehicle was never used by the fire service authority of Silchar and it was rather kept unattended inside the Silchar Circuit House Complex. They said that it was indeed a huge waste of the tax payers hard earned money. Incidents of fire are reported off and on from Silchar and its vicinity. In certain cases, this sophisticated vehicle would have been of great help in dousing fire with more accuracy and in less time, but for some strange reasons, the vehicle was kept unused and unattended.

Sanjeev Roy said that this is not the 1st time that they have approached the district administration for directing the fire service to use this vehicle and take proper care of it. But nothing concrete has come out inspite of repeated assurances given by the administration. Mr. Roy said, “If this time our demand is not fulfilled then we will launch a strong movement for the sake of the people of this district.” The Congress delegation informed that the DDC had given them a patient hearing and assured of positive intervention.
