History & Geography to be compulsory subjects in school curriculum in Assam: Cabinet

Aug. 20: Coinciding with the Assam Government’s completion of 100 days, the weekly Cabinet meeting made some significant decisions aimed at taking governance to grassroots, providing more relief to poor, reforming education sector as per National Education Policy (NEP) and joining global campaign against carbon emission, etc.

The following decisions were taken in the cabinet meeting:

Cabinet in districts: One Cabinet meeting to be held in district headquarters every month. First one at Dhemaji in September.

Enhanced Orunodoi: Enhanced Orunodoi assistance, from Rs 830 to Rs 1,000, to be effective from September 10. The amount is being deposited in beneficiary accounts on 10th of every month.

Geography & History: Geography and History to be compulsory subjects in school curriculum.

NEP in Assam: Implementation of provisions of National Educational Policy (NEP) to start from April, 2022. All high schools to be upgraded to senior secondary school and junior colleges will have class IX and Class X in them

Joining Global Campaign: To check carbon emission, Govt to procure 200 electric and 100 CNG buses for Guwahati city.

One time grant for COVID-hit: Inter-district bus drivers and handymen to receive Rs 10,000. They have to apply online through a portal for the assistance. Temple priests and naamghorias to get Rs 15,000.
