Hairstylist Jawed Habib spits on woman’s hair, complaint lodged

Jan. 7: A video of celebrity hairstylist Jawed Habib spitting on woman’s head while giving her a haircut has gone viral in social media. “If there is shortage of water… this spit has power,” Jawed Habib could be heard saying addressing an audience. The woman could be seen sitting on a chair on the stage. The incident occurred at a workshop conducted by Mr Habib in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar.

The National Commission for Women has asked the Uttar Pradesh Police to probe the veracity of a purported video that shows hair stylist Jawed Habib spitting on a woman’s head while styling her hair. Taking to its twitter handle on Thursday, the National commission for Women wrote, “@NCWIndia has taken cognizance of the incident. Chairperson @sharmarekha has written to @dgpup to immediately investigate the veracity of this viral video and take appropriate action. The action taken must be appraised to the Commission at the earliest.”

The lady on whose head Habib had spit said, “I’ll prefer going to a roadside barber for haircut over him (Jawed Habib).” The woman who identified herself as Pooja Gupta added, “he invited me on stage to give me a haircut and then misbehaved.”

Meanwhile, hairstylist Jawed Habib has apologised after the video of him spitting on a woman’s head went viral on social media. While apologising, Habib said that it was done with “humourous” intent. He said that he was sorry if someone was hurt because of the incident.
