Hailakandi registers 33 +ve cases on Sunday; Lab technician dies of COVID-19

August 16: Hailakandi district’s COVID-related death has risen to four with succumbing of a health worker to the disease on Saturday. Lab technician Foyaz Ahmed Laskar who was admitted at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital in a serious condition succumbed to COVID-19 on Sunday at around 6 pm. His mortal remains were brought to his native place Mohammadpur- I village under Lala revenue circle where his last rites were performed as per COVID-19 protocols.
A pall of gloom descended in the health fraternity following his demise. ADC (Health), EL Faihraem, Circle Officer, Lala, Joint Director, Health Services, Dr.A.Barman and other health functionaries paid their last respects to the departed soul. “We lost a great COVID warrior, a gentleman par excelllance and a very sincere health worker. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” said Faihraem.
Earlier, three COVID-19 positive patients viz., Mangoli Rani Das, 53, Foijul Haque Barbhuiya, 65, and Rahamot Ali Choudhury, 45 breathed their last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Seven deaths at SMC&H have been declared as ‘non-COVID’ by the State level Death Audit Board.
33 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported on Sunday, taking the total tally to 1,649. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 33 positive cases detected on Sunday, 21 cases have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 12 under RT-PCR. Altogether 752 cases have been found positive under RAT with over 50 per cent without travel history. 1,196 persons on being cured have been released from hospitals.The number of active cases is 442. 13 persons are currently under facility quarantine centres while 6,514 under home quarantine. Of the 16,340 swab samples taken, 14,305 turned out to be negative. Swab results of 258 persons are awaited.
Meanwhile, the district administration has stepped up swab samples collection under RAT. 40-45 mobile medical teams have fanned out to different parts of the district. The administration has set a target of collecting 2,000 swab samples per day. Deputy Commissioner, Megh Nidhi Dahal has urged people to get their swab tested to prevent further spread of the disease in the community.
