Gunotsav phase-II postponed in 3 districts including Hailakandi
May 21: Due to incessant rainfall, the water level in all the rivers of Barak Valley and many other parts of Assam has crossed the danger level. Flood water has inundated large part of the state. Houses of innumerable persons are drowned. People have taken shelter in relief camps opened by the government. It is in this backdrop that Executive Director of Samagra Shiksha, Assam in a letter issued on 21 May, 2022 stated that as per direction of the Government, the Gunotsav 2022 (phase II), scheduled to be held from 23 May to 26 May has been postponed. The next date will be communicated in due course of time.
The districts where the Gunotsav for Phase-II has been postponed are:
- Hailakandi
- Hojai
- South Salmara- Mankachar
It needs mentioned here that Gunotsav in many districts including Cachar is scheduled to be held from 1 June to 4 June, 2022. However, in Cachar too, the flood situation is quite grim. Flood victims have taken shelter in various government schools. As such, it is highly doubtful as to whether, Gunotsav can at all be conducted in Cachar on 1st week of June.
