Govt recommends 6-minute walk test to check adequate level of oxygen in body
June 9: Union Government has recommended the six-minute walk test for mild and moderate Covid-19 patients to check if they have low oxygen level. However, this walk test should not be done by those above 70 years, those with uncontrolled asthma and pregnant patients.
So what is the 6-minute walk test or how it should be done. As per an audio-visual issued by the Union Government, patients are advised to walk around their room for six minutes with an oximeter attached to their finger. The reading displayed in the screen of the oxymeter should be keenly observed.
If the patient’s oxygen saturation drops below 94 percent or if the patient feels unwell during or after the walk test, they should consult a doctor. This test can be repeated every 6 to 8 hours.
