Govt hospitals to have PRO for dissemination of information to patient’s family

June 1: In a recent development, all government hospitals in the state shall have a Public Relation Officer (PRO) who shall be primarily responsible for dissemination of information about the patients undergoing treatment to their family members. This was stated by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma while addressing the press on Saturday.

The Chief Minister said that generally patients admitted in hospitals can talk with their family members and inform them about their health condition. But when the patients are in serious condition or put in ventilation, then it does not become possible on their part to communicate with their near and dear ones. This results in great anxiety for the family members. Hence, a PRO at such critical moment may convey the health condition of such patients to their family members.

It needs mention here that a similar kind of suggestion was put forward by an Advocate from Silchar. In a memorandum addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Advocate Dharmananda Deb appealed that the hospitals should inform the family members of the Covid patients admitted therein about their health status once in every 24 hours.
