GC College has fair chances of being upgraded to university: MP Silchar
Dec.28: Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy during a press meet on Tuesday at his residence informed that he had met Dr Ranouj Pegu, Education Minister of Assam and discussed in Guwahati on 27 November, 2021 and urged upon him to upgrade Guru Charan College, Silchar, Cachar College, Silchar and Karimganj College of Barak Valley to University.
Dr Roy, however, informed the press that at this stage he was unable to say as to what extent this demand will see the light of the day.He was, however, quick to add that Dispur was very positive about upgradation of GC College, Silchar. He added, “Earlier, I had even said to our Chief Minister about upgrading GC College. They are exploring the various possibilities and will then take a call on this issue.”
Dr Rajdeep Roy also brought to the attention the issue of provincialisation of Commerce Deptt of Radhamadhab College, Silchar. The College was established in 1971 with only Arts faculty. The Commerce department was set up in the year 2007 and was simultaneously affiliated by Assam University, Silchar. He informed the press that he has also urged upon the state Education Minister about this matter. He said, “I am hopeful that in the near future, I am hopeful of getting some positive news about the provincialisation of Commerce Deptt of Radhamadhab College.”
