Police Super hold meeting with the owners of brick factories in Cachar to avoid any further mishap
way2barak, Dec.5: A meeting was held in the office of the Superintendent of Police, Cachar with the owners of brick factories under the jurisdiction of Cachar district. In the meeting, the issue of the recent catastrophe in one of the brick kiln at Kalain where 5 persons lost their lives came up for discussion. The Police Super briefed the owners of the brick factories to take all precautionary and safety measures for the workers.
In a tragic accident, 5 persons including two children were killed in a brick kiln chimney (It Bhatta) collapse at Kalain in Cachar district. The incident happened on Friday evening at Lakhipur Pt II of Kalain constituency in a brick kiln named, S.A.B.I. Atleast 8 more persons seriously injured in the accident were admitted at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH).
As per reports, labourers were working in that brick kiln when suddenly fire erupted inside the chimney of the brick kiln. As a result, due to tremendous heat, the chimney of the kiln suddenly crumbled and collapsed. Immediately, a hue and cry was raised. Other labourers who were in the vicinity tried to rescue those upon whom the chimney collapsed. Two injured were rushed to Kalain hospital who were then declared dead, whereas another 3 died when they were brought for treatment at SMCH. Locals alleged that the owner of the brick kiln, Altaf Hussain did not repair the chimney though it was in a fragile condition.
