From 2021, Assam Ratna, Assam Vibhushan, Assam Bhushan and Assamshri Award to be conferred annually
June 8: From this year onwards, the state government has decided to confer upon 4 awards annually. The awards are: Assam Ratna, Assam Vibhushan, Assam Bhushan and Assamshri Award. This was informed in a press meet on Tuesday following a cabinet meeting by Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu in presence of Cabinet Ministers Keshab Mahanta and Pijush Hazarika. These awards would be conferred for outstanding contribution in literature, art and culture and social service.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu further stated that the Assam Ratna award will be given annually to one person and would include a cash award of Rs. 5 lakh. Three persons annually will receive the Assam Vibhushan award and would include a cash amount of Rs. 3 lakh. Assam Bhushan award will be given to 5 persons every year. This would further include with it an amount of Rs 2 lakh. Ten persons annually will be conferred Assamshri Award and would include Rs 1 lakh along with it.

Ranoj Pegu also added that the recipients of these awards will enjoy some other facilities like free treatment for critical diseases, free accommodation in various Assam Houses in the country.

From now on, the literary awards will be given on the birthday of Homen Bargohain. Sports Awards will be given on the birthday of Arjun Bhogeshwar Baruah and Artists will be conferred the awards on Shilpi Dibash.
