Free WiFi service at Silchar Railway Station
February 5: With Silchar occupying its place in the Broad Gauge network of the country, many positive development has occurred since then. It’s indeed a dream come true for the people of this otherwise ‘ill-fated’ valley to reach Kolkata or Delhi or the extreme South of India by direct train from Silchar. Now, another feather has been recently added in the wings of Silchar Railway Station. It can now boast to have been provided with free WiFi along with 45 other stations.
Infact, Indian Railways had signed a MoU with Google in December, 2015 to launch the service, which offers 30 minutes of free internet access. RailTel, a subsidiary company of Indian Railways is implementing the project in cooperation with Google throughout the country. The project has succeeded in its mission of bringing connectivity to millions of unconnected Indians, leveraging on the nationwide optic fiber network backbone created by Indian Railways.
The matter which would be of immense interest for the people of Barak Valley is that 45 railway stations of NF Railways have been provided with free Wi-Fi services for passengers till now. These includes ‘A1’ category stations like Guwahati, New Jalpaiguri; ‘A’ category stations like Katihar, New Alipuduar, Siliguri, New Coochbehar, Lumding, Silchar, Kishanganj, Rangiya, etc; ‘B’ category stations like Kokrajhar, Agartala, Mariani, New Tinsukia, Dibrugarh etc.
With this new feature, Silchar Railway Station can now boast itself of being able to provide free WiFi connectivity along with the stations in the metro cities.
