Foundation stone of Lions 100 crore ‘Ophthalmology Specialty Hospital’ laid by LCIF Chairman Naresh Agarwal
November 24: The foundation stone of state-of-the art Ophthalmology Specialty Hospital, a dream venture of Lions Club of Silchar Central was laid on Saturday by Lion Dr. Naresh Aggarwal, Chairman of Lions Club International Foundation (LCI) and also the immediate past President of LCI. The ceremony was not less than a star-studded one when many remained witness to the historic moment at Ramnagar where the ‘Silchar central Lions Eye Hospital & Institute of Ophthalmology’ will come up.
The foundation stone laying programme of the Super Speciality Eye Hospital by Lions was also graced by State Cabinet Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, former Union Minister Kabindra Purkayastha, Deputy Commissioner Cachar Dr. S. Lakshmanan, BJP Spokesperson Rajdeep Roy, International Director of Lions V.K. Luthra, Police Super Rakesh Roushan, Eminent Ophthalmologist Dr. Harsha Bhattacharjee, Dr. Kumar Kanti Das, Dr. G.K. Chakraborty, Dr. Debaprasahad Kar, Lion Amarnath Khandelwal, Lion Nilanjan Gupta, Lion Arindam Bhattacharjee, Lion S.S. Endow, Lion, Amit Khandelwal, Lion Sumit Das, Lion Jashabanta Das, Lion Amit Khandelwal, District Governor of Dist.322G Lion M.L. Agarwal among others.
Lion Dr. Naresh Aggarwal while speaking during the occasion discussed about the functioning of the Lions and assured to stand besides the present endeavour of Lions Club of Silchar Central. He said that at present there are 48,000 Lions Club in 214 countries of the world out of which Silchar alone has 4 clubs. As regards the upcoming project, he said that the new hospital will be build in a total area of 5 bighas. The carpet area of the building will be 80,000 sq. feet. It will have 3 blocks and each block will have 5 floors. The total project cost is estimated at 100 crore.
In his speech, Dr. Harsha Bhattacharjee highlighted the technical aspect of the upcoming project and said that the upcoming hospital at Ramnagar will also act as a human resource development centre where medical and para-medical persons will be trained. V.K. Luthra, International Director of Lions was more optimistic when he said that the upcoming super speciality hospital will cater to the needs of the patients of not only Barak Valley but also its adjoining states and Bangladesh.
