Former President Pranab Mukherjee dies at 84, 7 days national mourning declared
August 31: Former President of India Pranab Mukherjee dies at 84. His son Abhijit Mukherjee confirmed the demise of the stalwart of Indian politics. He breathed his last on Monday. He was the President of India from 2012 to 2017.
In a tweet at 5.46 PM on Monday, Abhijit Mukherjee wrote, “With a Heavy Heart , this is to inform you that my father Shri #PranabMukherjee has just passed away inspite of the best efforts of Doctors of RR Hospital & prayers ,duas & prarthanas from people throughout India ! I thank all of You”

The former President of India, who tested positive for coronavirus, had been in coma after a brain surgery earlier this month. Condolence messages are pouring in from all throughout the country and abroad.
The centre has declared a 7-day national mourning as a mark of tribute to the late President. His funeral will take place on Tuesday.
Before adorning the Chair of the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee in his over 50-year-old political career was a devout leader of the Congress.Besides being Minister of Finance and Defence, he managed Parliamentary Affairs for the Congress. He was the perennial trouble-shooter for the then PM Manmohan Singh.
