Former Assam Minister Ardhendu Dey passes away

July 27: Former Assam minister, Dr Ardhendu Kumar Dey breathed his last at Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) on Wednesday. He was 81. He was an MLA at the Assam Legislative Assembly from the Hojai constituency from 1991 to 2006. However, in April 2021, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

In a condolence message, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Deeply saddened by the demise of veteran leader, former Minister and MLA of Hojai Dr Ardhendu De. In his long political career, he contributed immensely towards public welfare. My condolences to the bereaved and prayers for the departed soul. Om Shanti!”

Dr Dey qualified MBBS from the University of Calcutta and was a member of the Indian National Congress for a long time.
