Fishery Deptt conducts drive at wholesale fish market in Fatak Bazar
May 31: On Monday morning, the officials of District Fishery Department, Cachar conducted a drive in the wholesale fish market at Fatak Bazar, Silchar. The drive was mainly conducted to check the illegal import of fish from Bangladesh and many other such places. The officials warned the wholesale fish sellers to abide by the government rules and regulations and to abstain from procuring fish illegally from Bangladesh. This act is not only illegal but also involves risk at the time of the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.
The officials of the Fishery Department further instructed the fish merchants to maintain the Covid protocol strictly during fish trading. The illegal import of fish from Bangladesh has been a matter of great concern and it needs strict action as due to this act local fishermen as well as local economy has been facing immense hardship.
