Fish feeds & lime distributed among 135 fish farmers in Borjalenga under World Bank’s APART project

July  9: Deputy Commissioner Cachar, Keerthi Jalli formally distributed fish feeds and lime among 83 fish farmers in Borjalenga under Dholai constituency in Cachar on Friday.

It is pertinent to mention here that under the second installment of the World Bank’s APART project for the year 2020-21, fish meal and lime were distributed among total of 135 beneficiaries from 4 groups in Borjalenga block and Tapang block. A brief meeting was held at the Chotojalenga Multipurpose Hall before the distribution function.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said, “I must appreciate the efforts taken by the recipient beneficiaries to make themselves self-reliant and now it is the right time for fish production and these food items will play a very important role in increasing fish production. The use of modern technology will greatly help in fish production and today Assam is self-sufficient in fish production and today Assam is self-sufficient in fish production with the special initiative of State Fisheries Minister Parimal Shuklavaidya.” Jalli called upon all the beneficiaries to take interest in fish production as well as to implement the fish feed received by all the beneficiaries in their own way.

Earlier, Rafiqul Haque, District Fisheries Officer, Cachar addressed the gathering, urging the progressive fish farmers to take proper advantage of the various projects being transformed by the present Assam government.
While mentioning about the initiatives taken by the government, he said that Bio floc, Motorcycle with ice box, E Rickshaw with ice box and cycle with ice box are being given under “Pradhan Mantri Matshya Sampada Yojana” to reduce the post harvesting loss of fishes. He further stated that 35 fishermen were provided support for improving living conditions and hygienic facilities under Blue Revolution Project. He also called upon the new generation to be interested in fish farming and become self reliant.

Subudh Das, Block President,Borjalenga Development Block, highlighted the landmark initiatives including various schemes of the Fisheries Department. He said that the demand for fish has come down in the state under the leadership of Minister Parimal Suklabaidya. The local fish production in the state is sufficient. He said that the state doesn’t have to wait for fish from Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal. He further stated that the local fish farmers have become self-reliant. He mentioned that fish production has increased from 2.94 lac metric tonnes to 3.93 lac metric tons and all the fish are being produced entirely locally.
