Firing by Mizo forces: 12 hours Barak bandh called by BDF on Wednesday
July 26: Six jawans of Assam Police lost their lives in firing by Mizoram forces, several other policemen and civilians were also injured. As a mark of protest, Barak Democratic Front (BDF) has given a call for 12 hours Barak Bandh on Wednesday from 5 AM to 5 PM.
Informing this, Chief Convenor of BDF Pradip Dutta Roy said, “We convened an emergent virtual meeting in which the members have severely criticised the role of Mizoram forces. We also offered deep condolences to the 6 jawans who were killed during the violence today. It is our appeal to the people at large to observe Barak Bandh on Wednesday as a protest against this heinous incident.”
On Monday, fresh tension broke out at Lailapur in Assam- Mizoram border. When the top officials of Assam led by its IGP, DIG Southern Range, DC, SP & DFO Cachar went to resist their protest as against encroachment of the land of Assam by the Mizoram battalion, civilians along with Mizo forces started pelting stones. Suddenly, they started to fire indiscriminately in which several police personnel including SP Cachar and OC Dholai including some civilians were injured. Six Assam Police jawans were also killed along the line of duty. The injured were rushed to Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH).
