Female employee of Assam Secretariat caught red handed while taking bribe

Jan. 4: In what seems to be planned action of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-corruption Cell (V&AC), Assam, a female employee was nabbed red handed while accepting bribe. On the basis of a complaint, Vigilance and Anti-corruption cell laid a trap and caught the employee while taking the bribe. The government employee identified as Seema Devi was caught red-handed while accepting bribe money of Rs 4,000. Along with the bribe money, the V&AC also recovered Rs 99,000 in cash from her bag. As per reports, she was taken by head office of V&AC for further interrogation and investigation.

Taking to its twitter handle, Assam Police wrote, “In continuation of the resolve to eradicate every form of corruption, Senior Assistant WPT Smt Seema Devi was arrested today inside Dispur Secretariat, in a trap by @DIR_VAC_ASSAM while accepting a bribe of ₹4000/-. Additional ₹99000/- was also recovered from her bag.”

This reminds of a similar incident which occurred in Silchar in 2019. A staff of the Cachar District Election Office, Atasi Dutta Tarafdar was caught red-handed by the anti-corruption wing while taking bribe in a similar manner.
