Fact Check: Donald Trump did not mistake Maradona for Madonna in twitter, it’s FAKE
Nov. 26: A screenshot of a tweet by United States President Donald Trump confusing Argentine football legend Diego Maradona with singer Madonna and tweeting condolences to the latter, is fake. The screenshot of this tweet became viral in social media on Thursday.
According to the screenshot, Trump allegedly confused the Argentinian footballer Maradona for the American singer – Madonna. The screenshot being shared on social media suggests Trump sent a tweet reading: “Very sad to hear about the death of Maradona. A great person. Her music was wonderful. I remember listening to her albums in the early 1980’s. Rest In Peace!”
Reuters confirmed that, “No tweet mentioning Maradona can be seen on Trump’s official account @realDonaldTrump and according to Politwoops, a project by ProPublica that archives deleted tweets from politicians, no such tweet has not been deleted from his page.” India Today Anti Fake News War Room (AFWA) has found that the viral screenshot is morphed. Donald Trump has not made any such statement. Quaint wrote, “However, we found that the tweet was morphed and Trump didn’t tweet about Maradona after the footballer’s death on Wednesday, 25 November.”
BOOM found that the viral tweet screenshot is fake and United States President Donald Trump did not get confused between Maradona and Madonna. We did not find any such tweet from Trump’s Twitter timeline or even a condolence tweet by him on Maradona’s death at the time of writing this article.
Even after Diego Maradona’s death was announced, Donald Trump’s Twitter account only had tweets focusing on the news about the results of the US Presidential elections. Thus, the viral tweet allegedly a tribute to Maradona by Trump is a morphed screenshot.
