Exclusive market shed “Mamoni Bazar” for women inaugurated at Katigorah
July 16: With a vision to explore the power of women “Nari Shakti”, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Keerthi Jalli inaugurated an exclusive market shed “Mamoni Bazar” for women at Dinnathpur Bagicha under Katigorah on Friday. The occasion was graced by DC Jalli as the chief guest in presence of Chairman Cachar Zilla Parishad, Amitabh Rai, District Development Commissioner, Cachar Rajib Roy, Chief Executive officer ,Cachar Zilla Parishad Eldrad Faheirm, Senior Planning Officer, Planning Branch Cachar- Ruli Daulagupu, ZP President Dinanathur Bagicha Anamika Deb and other officials.
Expressing her views, the Deputy Commissioner said that while she was in Hyderabad and came to know about her posting in Assam, she then came across a book called “Moth eaten Howdah of the Tusker” written by Mamoni Raisom Goswami, which helped her getting introduced to the taste and sweetness of Assam. Talking about women empowerment, DC Jalli said, “It was decided to open a market exclusively for women, keeping in mind about women empowerment. Women are the backbone of a family who takes care of the children, cooks food, teaches her children and even tries to save money in her own little way for her family.”
“The step taken for building an all-women market was undoubtedly an enthusiastic one towards women empowerment and such kind of markets should be opened in every nook and corner of the district. In this connection, work has already been in progress at Dholai and Sonai. Development of the individual will help in development of his or her family ,which in turn will help in development of the entire district which will again result in development of the state followed by the country,” said the Deputy Commissioner.
DC Jalli said that GP president should ensure that only women can sell products in the said market. She assured that more training will be conducted via various SHGs for more production and sale. “I convey my gratitude towards Pradip Das, an inhabitant of Dinanathur Bagicha who came forward to donate this land on which this market was constructed. I also congratulate CEO and Chairman Zilla Parishad, Cachar, GP president and Engineer of this project Sailesh Singh, SPO Ruli Daulagupu who have contributed a lot towards making this mission a grand success and taking women empowerment ahead,” Jalli quipped.
It is pertinent to mention here that this market shed is first of its kind in Barak Valley and which is one amongst the identified Adarsh Villages of Cachar District. The scheme has been taken up under a sustainable convergence project that will be carried out in the long run and regular monitoring by the concerned District Heads such as Agriculture, Zilla Parishad, Fishery, Handloom and Textile and NRLM etc. The progress of the markets will be reviewed in the monthly DDC meeting. It’s worth mentioning that an amount of Rs 10 lakh was spent for the construction of the market shed under District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT).
Earlier, Sailesh Singh , Engineer of this project explained the objectives and purpose of this programme.
CEO Cachar Zilla Parishad Eldrad Faheirm ,DDC Cachar, Rajib Roy, Chairman Zilla Parishad Amitabh Rai and ZP President Dinanathur Bagicha Anamika Deb also spoke on occasion. Later a dance item was performed by the local women where Deputy Commissioner Cachar also took part.
