Eviction drive on for making Greenfield Airport; Sec 144 imposed at Doloo T.E. including Mahasadak area

May 11: The proposal of construction of Greenfield Airport at Doloo Tea Estate in Cachar came under opposition from certain quarters recently. However, the government has on the other hand decided to go ahead with the process of land acquisition for this purpose. Meanwhile, district administration opined that there has been apprehension that breach of peace and public tranquility may take place In and around Daloo Tea Estate area including Mahasadak area in greater Borkhola area in the District of Cachar due to eviction programme in connection with setting up of Green Field Airport.

It was also apprehended by the administration that some persons may indulge in-anti social activities and intimidate and tease the innocent people and give obstruction to genuine public and create annoyance. It is in this context that Keerthi Jalli, in her capacity as the District Magistrate (DM) promulgated Section 144 of CrPC at Doloo Tea Estate area including Mahasadak area. The DM issued this order on 11 May, 2022. It was further stated, “Considering the circumstances of the matter of the situation and in the public interest these orders are passed ex-parte and directed to public in general. This order comes into force with immediate effect and shall remain valid until her order.”

Key Points:

1.  Prohibit assembly of more than 5 persons in and around Daloo Tea Estate area including Mahasadak area in greater Borkhola area
2. No person shall carry arms, weapons, explosives, lathis, spears, stones or any other lethal weapons which can cause injury, except by Army, Para-Military Forces, Police on duty in and around Daloo Tea Estate area including Mahasadak area in greater Borkhola area.
3. No person shall take out any procession /organization shall hold any public meeting without specific permission from the District Magistrate /Addl District Magistrate, Cachar. Silchar
4. No person shall burst any cracker/ bombs/ other sound producing materials and display any fireworks in public places and thoroughfares.
