Even Congress candidate calls me & seek help during Rajya Sabha election, says Assam Chief minister

March 21: During the zero hour, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma raised the issue of fingers been pointed towards him on the issue of his visit at the residence of Congress MLA Sashikanta Das. Allegations of horse trading during the ensuing Rajya Sabha elections were levied upon him.

“In wake of the hullabaloo over my visit to house of Hon MLA Sashikanta Das, I requested Hon Speaker Sri Biswajit Daimar if there is any rule which prevents a Chief Minister from visiting an opposition MLA at his/her residence,” tweeted the Chief Minister. Assembly Speaker replied that there exists no such rule. To this CM Assam stated,”If the opposition feels that no minister shall visit the house of their MLA’s then I shall pass a decision in this regard in the next cabinet.”

The Chief Minister then went on to say, “Even the Congress candidate calls me and ask for help to win the Rajya Sabha election. I have proof of this. Congress candidate have called me to take my help. Speaker Sir can check my mobile to see. This is no crime. During elections, one seeks help and cooperation from other or else there would have been selection.”

On Monday, BJP-UPPL common candidates for the two Rajya Sabha seats from Assam that go to polls – Pabitra Gogoi Margherita and Rwngwra Narzary – filed their nominations. On the other hand, Assam Congress candidate Ripun Bora also filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections. Elections for the two Rajya Sabha seats in Assam is slated to be held on March 31.
