Even after 365 days of Molin Sharma’s death, the killer tipper still remains at large!

July 28: The untimely demise of photo journalist Molin Sharma in a tragic road mishap on 28 July, 2019 was a harsh incident which shook the hearts of a huge multitude of people. Dissatisfaction cropped up among the people regarding the faulty traffic management system prevailing at Silchar. The deceased Molin Sharma was a photo journalist of local electronic channel, BTN and was immense popular among all due to his good nature, professional zeal and enthusiasm.

On 28 July, 2019 at around 11 PM, Molin Sharma was crushed to death by a tipper near the Fire Brigade office at Tarapur, Silchar, which is at a stone’s throw from Tarapur Police Out Post. He breathed his last at the spot leaving behind his daughter, wife and a host of kith and kin. The tragic accident happened when Molin was going back home from a programme of Silchar Inner Wheel Club. Anger mounted among the masses about the careless driving of tippers on the roads of Silchar.

Molin Sharma’s death at an age of 43 years left many questions unanswered till now. The then Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Laya Madduri assured the civil society of drastic action against the tippers plying at night in Silchar town. Many rules for entry of heavy vehicles inside the town area were made. Assurances were given even on behalf of the police administration about nabbing the culprit of the killer tipper. But since then, one year has passed, but the administration has miserable failed to give justice to the family members of the deceased journalist as the ‘killer tipper’ is still at large.

Life is a continuous process and it goes on leaving many unanswered questions in the sands of time. Where did the ‘killer tipper’ vanish? Will the police never ever be able to find out the tipper which killed Molin ruthlessly? Will our town Silchar ever be brought under the surveillance of functional CCTV as promised by the then Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri? Will there be more vigilant supervision of the town especially during the night by the men in uniform?

These and many other questions remained unanswered even after 365 days of that tragic day, when journalist Molin Sharma bid adieu to this world. Justice in this incident looms large over the distant horizon. With the passage of time, dust accumulates in human memory, thereby receding the unfulfilled promises made by those at the helm of power. But amidst this, the memory of the smiling face of Molin Sharma still comes afresh on his first death anniversary.
