Electric train services to begin in Assam from March 2021
Feb. 13: Assam will soon be included in the network of electric train services. Public Relation Officer (PRO) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Nripen Bhattacharyya said, “If everything goes as planned, running of electric trains will be started in March this year between New Bongaigaon and Rangiya in Assam.”

On 10 February the electrification works were completed and the first-ever electric goods train arrived in New Cooch Behar. Now the work is going on to connect New Cooch Behar station in West Bengal and New Bongaigaon Station in Assam. It will be followed by the running of electric trains between Rangiya and Guwahati by May/June this year. In phases, this service will be extended up to Lumding and Dibrugarh. Already an electric goods train has been running between New Jalpaiguri and New Coochbehar. The electric train services will be for both the passenger and goods trains.
