Efforts on but no immediate solution of Assam – Mizoram border issue, says CM Assam

July 20: “As regards the Assam Mizoram border dispute, the situation is not very conducive. Almost eyeball to eyeball confrontation is going on in Hailakandi, Karimganj and Cachar district.” This was stated by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press briefing from the legislative assembly on Tuesday.

CM Sarma further informed that the Union Home Secretary has also recently discussed this issue at length with both the Chief Secretaries of Assam and Mizoram to resolve the border issue. He added, “But as of now, the situation in Assam Meghalaya border is still fragile. Some positive outcome can be expected in the Assam Meghalaya and Assam- Arunachal Pradesh front, but I do not expect any immediate result on the Assam Mizoram border dispute. It will take some time.”

It needs mention here that Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma will meet his counterpart of Meghalaya to resolve amicable the border dispute between these two states. He would further meet the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh to discuss border related issues. As regards the border issue with Nagaland, Dr Sarma informed that this issue is in Supreme Court.
