মিজোরামে গাড়ি গেলেও ক্ষোভ অব্যাহত
‘Economic blockade’ by public ends after intervention by Assam ministers

ওয়েটুবরাক, ৮ আগস্ট : শনিবার আধা সেনা নামিয়ে অর্থনৈতিক অবরোধ প্রত্যাহার করানো হলেও সীমান্তবর্তী অঞ্চলের মানুষের মধ্যে তীব্র ক্ষোভ বিরাজ করছে৷ রবিবার গাড়ি চলাচলে বাধার সৃষ্টি না হলেও অবরোধকারীরা জোটবদ্ধ রয়েছেন৷ তাঁরা আজও নানা মূহূর্তে ঐক্যের পরীক্ষায় সফল হয়েছে৷

মিজোরামে অমিজো চালকদের  ওপর শারীরিক নিগ্রহের অভিযোগে বারবারই তপ্ত হয়ে সীমান্তের এ পার৷ যদিও কেউ কোনও এজাহার দাখিল করেননি বলে জল বেশিদূর গড়ায়নি৷ তবে আন্দোলনকারীরা জোট বেঁধে জানিয়ে দিয়েছেন, অমিজো নিগ্রহের আর কোনও ঘটনা ঘটলে তাঁরা সড়ক অবরোধে বসবেন৷

তাঁদের অভিযোগ, সরকার দুই মন্ত্রীকে আইজলে পাঠিয়ে মউ সই করিয়ে বাজে দৃষ্টান্ত স্থাপন করল৷ একে এরা আসাম পুলিশের জওয়ানকে খুন করেছে৷ সে জন্য তাদের কোনও মামলা-মোকদ্দমা হবে না৷ দোষী বের করে শাস্তির ব্যাপারও থাকবে না৷ দ্বিতীয়ত, এরা গুলি করতে গুলি করতে অসমের যতটা ভেতরে ঢুকে পড়েছে, সেখানেই তারা গিয়েছে৷ রাজ্য সরকার কেন্দ্রের কথা মেনে নেওয়ায় আসামের ওই জমি থেকে মিজোদের সরানো যায়নি৷ ফলে আগে যে টুকু বিতর্কিত অঞ্চল ছিল, এখন এর মাত্রা বেড়ে গেল৷ কেড়ে নেওয়া জমি পুনরুদ্ধারে আসাম সরকার কিছু করতেও পারবে না৷ তাদের কথায়, “সরকার নীরবে সব মেনে নিতে পারে৷ আমরা উপত্যকার মানুষ সে সব আর মেনে নেব না৷” তাঁরা গুলিচালনার ঘটনায় মিজোরাম সরকারের কাছে দোষীদের গ্রেফতার করে কঠোর শাস্তির দাবি জানায়৷ সেইসঙ্গে নিহতদের নিকটাত্মীয় ও আহতদের যে পরিমাণ টাকা ক্ষতিপূরণ প্রদান করা হয়েছে, মিজোরাম সরকারকে দিতে হবে৷

Aug. 8: Assam Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya and Urban Development Minister Ashok Singhal rushed to Lailapur at the Assam Mizoram Border on Saturday. At the direction of Chief Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, both the ministers visited the Lailapur Police Outpost along the inter-state border and persuaded the locals to allow the free movement of vehicles laden with essential goods to Mizoram and to ease tension along the border.

The Ministers along with the DC Cachar Keerthi Jalli, SP Cachar Ramandeep Kaur and other senior officials of Cachar held talks with the locals and urged them to withdraw the economic blockade and to create an congenial  atmosphere paving the way for restoration of peace and tranquility along the inter-state border. “The safety of the local people is our responsibility and we assure you all necessary support,” assured Minister Suklabaidya to the representatives of NGOs, leading citizens of the area, apart from Silchar Truck Drivers’ Association and Nagatilla Truck Owners’ Association.

The Ministers urged upon the people to refrain from any further protests or any unwanted circumstances along the routes to Mizoram to ensure smooth flow of essentials to the neighbouring state. Forest minister, Parimal Suklabaidya, during the meeting, mentioned that Assam Chief Minister on Friday held a meeting with all the 15 MLAs of Barak Valley to decide over the faith of current issue. “The chief minister made very clear about the govt’s stance on not letting off an inch of our land to Mizoram apart from giving justice to the slain police personnel” Suklabaidya said.

“Considering the situation in Mizoram, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sharma asked us to go to the border and make transportation normal. People in Assam are angry and pained because Mizoram police have killed six Assam police officials. But respecting the decision taken by the Assam chief minister, locals allowed the vehicle to move,” Assam minister for GDD, urban development and irrigation Ashok Singhal said.

“On the same direction, I and Parimal Sukhlabaidya visited the Lailapur border and held dialogue with the locals. We also talked with our Mizoram counterpart and were assured by the latter that they will launch a free and fair investigation of the July 26 incident,” Singhal said. The unofficial ‘economic blockade’ was withdrawn by the locals following the assurances from both the governments of investigation.

Commenting on tension that erupted at Lailapur, when both the ministers were holding the meet, Singhal said a mass of people gathered there and flared up the situation. However, he was quick to add that the situation was brought under control immediately by the police. Later, in presence of Guardian Minister for Cachar, Ashok Singhal, Forest Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya, DC Cachar Keerthi Jalli and SP Cachar Ramandeep Kaur, around 7 trucks with essential commodities were escorted to the Mizoram by the Assam Police.
