Dry days declared during Assam Assembly Election, 2021
March 21: The state government has declared dry days banning sale and consumption of alcohol during all three phases of the forthcoming Assam Assembly Elections, 2021. There will be a total ban on the sale of liquor, distribution of spirituous, fermented or intoxicating liquors or other substances at a hotel, public eating house, tavern, shop or any other places within a polling area during the period of 48 hours. Earlier, the ban on liquor was intimated from 5 pm to 5 pm. However, the timings was revised as per a WT message on 20 March and the new timings will be from 6:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
In areas, which are going to polls in the first phase, the order of the dry day will remain effective from 6 pm on March 25 till 6 pm on March 27, 2021. A total of 47 constituencies will cast their votes on 27 March in the first phase.
In areas going to polls in the second phase will remain effective from 6 pm on March 30 till 6 pm on April 1, 2021. A total of 39 constituencies including 15 constituencies in Barak Valley will cast their votes on 1 April in the second phase.
In the constituency areas going to polls in the third phase, dry days will be from 6:00 PM of April 4 to 6:00 PM of April 6, 2021. A total of 40 constituencies will cast their votes on 04 April in the third phase.
Further, the dry day will remain effective on the day of the counting of votes – May 2, 2021. Apart from this, ban on liquor will also remain effective on the day of re-poll, if any.
