If timely and proper intervention can be done towards any patient with heart ailments, then the results indeed are very fruitful.”
“It’s a tendency among the people to take chest pain very lightly. People often think that chest pain occurs as a result of acidity, but it is not always the case. This could even be a symptom of heart attack, which is indeed a medical emergency requiring immediate intervention by the cardiologist. In most of the cases of heart attack, the patient, if not treated immediately dies within an hour, said Dr. Roy.
As regards the importance of Cath Lab, Cardiologist Dr Roy said, “Administering proper medicine to the patients of heart attack and heart block is necessary, but at the same time, to help survive the patient of attack or block, Cath Lab is of equal importance.” He stressed on the aspect that the people must be more aware regarding chest pain and should not neglect it as gas syndrome.
So what should one do to maintain a healthy heart? To this, Dr Tirthankar Roy said, “The most important aspect is to lead a healthy life. The stressful life style led by people of this age and time results in most of cardiac arrests. For maintaining a good heart, one should do exercise or brisk walking. It is a misconception that to maintain a good heart one should go to gym daily. No, it is not so. On an average, a person should walk or do exercise atleast 2 and half hours a week. This will definitely be of great help. Apart from this, we should adopt good food habits and keep us away from tobacco use.”
As regards his future plan, Dr Tirthankar Roy said, “Look, as I have done MD in Cardiology from RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata, which is an institute of the Government of West Bengal, so as per norms,I had to sign a bond there to work in that state for 3 years after completing my course. I have passed out DM Cardiology this year. That means for next three years, I shall have to compulsorily serve the people in West Bengal. Once the bond period gets over, I definitely have plans to return back to my home town Silchar.”
