Don’t knit-pick like an immature kid, says Himanta Biswa Sarma to Rahul Gandhi

June 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday in his address to the nation announced that free vaccines will be provided to all above 18 years by the Union government and the states shall not have to spend a penny for this purpose. He, however, added that 25 percent of the Covid-19 vaccines produced in the country will go directly to the private hospitals, while the Centre will buy the rest fro distribution to the states and Union Territories for free. He further announced that the private hospitals will be able to apply a maximum of 150 service charge per dose above the vaccine’s fixed cost.” The states shall have to monitor the charges levied by the private hospitals on the vaccine doses.

In response to this announcement, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a tweet wrote, “One simple question- If vaccines are free for all, why should private hospitals charge for them?” Replying to this tweet, Assam Chief Minister in his attempt to defend the Prime Minister gave a bitter reply to Rahul Gandhi.

Tagging Mr Gandhi, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “One simple answer- Every 18+ Indian will be given free vaccine by PM @narendramodi Govt at public hospitals, those who want to pay can opt for a private. Don’t knit-pick like an immature kid.”

Earlier, just after Prime Minister’s announcement of the new vaccination policy, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “We owe it to the grand vision and compassion of Hon PM Sri @narendramodi for having ensured free vaccine for all above 18 years. On behalf of millions of beneficiaries I also thank PM for extending Garib Kalyan Yojana till November 2021. Thank you.”
